As a strategic coach the biggest area to be mindful of is that you are not so focused on coming up with the strategy that you bypass the underlying and unconscious feelings and beliefs that have prevented your client from already achieving what they desire.
Most people know what they want and there is a reason they haven't experienced it yet...and very rarely is it because of lack of information alone. It's important that you stay mindful of your client's emotional states and learn how to appropriately, and effectively, work with the underlying blocks and resistance.
They key to lasting change and transformation is not just someone's ability to achieve goals. Many people experience success in the traditional terms of achieve and accomplish but if we don't have emotional and spiritual satisfaction in our life then is it really considered success.
Additionally, it's important to make sure you are moving at the same pace as your clients. Your ability to connect the dots and create an effective plan comes so easy to you but not always for others. If you're not careful, you might find your creating plans and strategies that your clients never follow through on because they don't fully understand or believe in the plan.
Suggestions for a Strategic Coach . . .
- Make it a regular practice to check in with your client's emotional state and normalize what they are feeling.
- Explore within yourself any patterns of avoidance of your emotions and practice your own emotional regulation.
- Check in with your client and assess their commitment and alignment with any strategy that is created.
- Continue to clarify your client's goals and motivations to make sure you are working towards their desires and not just what you want for them.
- Remember, your clients have their own path to walk and it is not your responsibility to create the perfect outcome for them. Your worth and your value is not defined by your client's success or failures.
